I was so excited to get to meet this new little bundle of joy. He is just the sweetest little thing! I definitely got my baby fix after spending the afternoon at his house.

His big (furry) sister even made it into a few photos. She was very curious as to why I was in her house and paying so much attention to the new little baby!

A Very Merry Surprise....

I have been planning and starting to put together my website for some time now. I researched so many potential hosting options, and sites where you could build your own website through templates. I wanted to be able to control my own website, and add or change things as I needed.

Insert Showit, a fantastic website builder that lets you be creative with your site, but makes it easy! They do weekly live hangouts that I started watching to start learning more about how to work the program, and cool options add on to your website. I met some really great people that were also watching and interacting.

The Showit crew started a 12 days of Christmas giveaway, where daily for 12 days they hosted live webcasts and gave away some awesome prizes. The closer it got to Christmas, the bigger the prizes got. They started with a free year of hosting. A free year! How awesome is that?! This is exactly what I needed to jump start by business! I entered every day, and watched the live webcasts to find out who won.

Jump to Christmas day. 11 fantastic people had won some really great prizes, and I had come to peace that I was not going to win. Every day more and more people were finding out about the contest and entering, so my odds were decreasing. Patrick and I traveled to South Dakota on Christmas Day, and we might have arranged our travel plans so that I could watch the final day of Christmas webcast. We arrived at my inlaws, and I bee-lined to the computer to watch. (The roads were slightly more dificult to travel on than we had anticipated, so we cut it close!)

On all the other webcasts, they announced the winners name, but this time, at the very end, they said at the end of the broadcast that we should all head over to their facebook page to see who the winner was. I quickly jumped over and saw this post:

What?! You have to be joking right? I cannot begin to explain the rush of emotions I felt after seeing my name! This was the biggest prize of all. $7,000 worth of goods and services. My heart was racing and I teared up! This is going to be so beneficial to my business, I cannot even begin to grasp how much this is going to change my life.

Here is the video I submitted. It isn't very long, they asked us to just show a quick video of yourself.

OK, are you as amazed as I am? I am still in shock! A HUGE thank you to the entire Showit crew: David Jay, Kevin Strum, Sean Naus, Brett Bollman, and Andrew Barlow. Carissa + Chris [Fargo Wedding Photographer]

I have the pleasure of knowing this gorgeous bride. Carissa and I went to middle school and high school together.
Carissa and Chris had a beautiful Fargo wedding, and the weather cooperated perfectly (okay, maybe a little too perfectly for a fall wedding). It was a very warm day. But, you can't complain about that, right?

To sum up this wedding in one word: sweet. Not just the array of candy they offered their guests at the reception, but how Chris looked at his bride when he saw her for the first time, or the way Carissa grabbed his hand just because. They surrounded themselves with their closest friends and family, so everyone could witness just how sweet their love really is.

C+C chose to do a first look, which is my favorite moment to capture! A first look gives the bride and groom a private moment before they start their insanely busy day! Here's a peek at Carissa and Chris' first look:

I am in love with this one! How gorgeous is she???

For sweet! These two are absolutely perfect for each other. This photo captures them perfectly.

This church had some amazing natural light. A photographers dream!

Carissa and Chris' reception was beautifully decorated in pinks and blacks, with plenty of fresh flowers. They had several different centerpieces on the tables, all with beautiful flowers and vases. I love how everything coordinated together just right. For their favors, they set up a table in the back with a candy bar, which was a big hit!

I met up with this amazing couple again this year for some photos to use as Christmas Cards. One of their photos from last year, is still to date one of my favorite photos.

This year, they're Bridget and Nick + Baby bump! So we had to capture some photos of that as well! I'm so excited for them and their soon to be little one!

We took advantage of some amazing fall light coming in through some trees. Last year we did fall photos at East Silent Resort near Dent, MN. This year they came up to visit me, and we explored Trollwood Park in North Fargo.

This family met up with me for some mini sessions on a pretty chilly morning. Big brother E was geared up for photos, even though it was cold. His cousins showed him the ropes about picture taking, they got theirs taken in the session right before his.

E's smile lasted all morning long.

This family met with me for some mini sessions. My first set of twins! They didn't take long to warm up to the camera, and we got some really great shots.

For the photo where they're sitting in the leaves hugging, I asked them to put their arms around each other, and they gave each other that great big hug! I was expecting some resistance, but they were more than willing! And when I asked them if they were best friends, the answer I got was, "No, we're twins!"

Elizabeth and Treavor [Fargo Wedding Photographer]

I am blessed to have been able to spend the day with Elizabeth, Treavor and their amazing friends and families.I had such a hard time choosing images to post, so prepare, this is a long blog post! I just loved them all so much! I would also like to say thank you to an amazing assistant/second shooter I had with me this day. Thank you Angie Haugland for helping me out.

I snapped a few photos of Elizabeth's final preparations before heading over to the Concordia College campus where Treavor was patiently waiting to see his beautiful bride for the first time!

My favorite part of the day, the First Look, where the bride and groom choose to see each other before the ceremony. This moment is so full of emotion, and it allows the bride and groom to have a moment to themselves. I absolutely love being able to capture this.

You might recognize this photo. It is now the profile image on the LKP facebook page, and soon will be on my business cards. It's so perfect.

Elizabeth, you are stunning!!

Some of Elizabeth's great details: Elizabeth arranged her own flowers! She did an amazing job, they turned out beautifully.

Completely candid moment during the ceremony, captured a quick glance between E and T. Eep! Love this!

E+T's wedding was full of so many amazing details. Guests wrote messages on rocks and placed them in a tray. What a great alternative to a guest book! And notice the hockey pucks in the picture on the right? Treavor is a hockey player. What a cute way to incorporate that into their day!

During the speeches, Elizabeth and Treavor were presented with hockey sticks. (You can't tell here, but Treavor's was actually pink). They had a face off, right there on the corner of the dance floor.

The speeches were so funny, I was having a hard time shooting I was laughing so hard. Best set of speeches I've ever heard. Treavor's brother read an old college paper that Treavor wrote about how to have a successful marriage. I just love the look on his face here!
(And notice the image behind them, that was the photo of Treavor proposing, on the ice of a Fargo Force game. Is this guy sweet, or what?!)

I met up with this family for mini sessions at Island Park. It was quite chilly in the morning, they were the first session. We had a great time taking photos and the kids were full of energy! We ended the session by playing in the park for a few minutes. That got us some great smiles!

We took her photos on two different days for two different looks. First we went to Lindenwood Park and the second day we explored downtown. Courtney was such a great model, and it wasn't hard to make her smile. Courtney is an avid reader, as you will see from a few of the photos below, and also plays hockey!

Camille and Richard [Hjemkomst center wedding]

Camille and Richard had a beautiful wedding at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead. The wedding was on a beautiful and sunny day, but there was a quick heavy downpour while we were doing outdoor photos. We hurried inside the Stave Church, which was the closest place to where we were, but that was okay with me, because the church is gorgeous both inside and out!

Camille and Richard 's love was so apparent to me throughout their day. I loved how he would rest his head on top of Camille's. He did it during photos, or just whenever they were close. So sweet.

The viking ship inside provided for some great photo opportunities and some great places to shoot detail shots.

Andrea and Brad [MN Wedding Photographer]

Andrea and Brad had a wedding day that I've never experienced, and I'm not sure I will ever come across again. I imagine them telling this story someday to their children, to their grandchildren.
The weather forecast warned of severe storms. The sky looked overcast, but it hadn't rained yet so my intention was to still take some photos outside. We were all inside, and Andrea and Brad had just shared their first look. My next plan was to go outside before it started raining. We assembled everyone and went out back and it just started sprinkling, so we headed back inside. I got one quick photo of Andrea and Brad. We took some formal photos inside the church, and checked every so often to see if it had stopped sprinkling. But it only got worse. How much worse? We spent about 45 minutes hiding in the basement of the church while the wind, rain, and hail pelted the windows and the church.

Everyone had been keeping up with the weather reports, via cell phones or calling others who had access. We all decided it would be best to go into the basement. Right before we did, I peeked outside and took this photo:

I don't think the photo can accurately show how scary the sky really was. Right on the left you can start to see the wall of rain that pounded us seconds after I snapped this. Me and the four other guys who were watching ran inside before we (and my camera!) got soaked. I pulled the front door closed behind me, I was the last one in, and the wind sucked it back open. I could barely hold it closed.

So, if rain is good luck on your wedding day, then tornado warnings, hail, and hiding in the basement must be the ultimate sign of luck and a prosperous marriage.

I have the wonderful opportunity of knowing Andrea from my college days. We met student teaching at the NDSU Center for Child Development. So I am blessed to not only be her friend, but to have the opportunity to photograph her wedding. I am truly grateful.

Exciting day!

Just a quick blog to tell you (what I think) is pretty exciting news. I'm shooting tomorrow with Paige from Erin Johnson Photography. I am so pumped! I feel so honored to even be doing this! I've never met Paige, but I've taken a workshop with Erin, and I think she's completely fabulous. She has great style when it comes to photography. I love to see how other photographers shoot weddings, and draw my own inspiration from that. So, yes, I'll say it again, I'm excited!

So I'll be out tomorrow and Sunday (the wedding is in Minneapolis) but I can't wait to tell you ALL about it!

And because a post is much better with a picture, here is a picture I took at a recent wedding.

I was beyond excited, isn't she just a little sweetie? She fought so hard to stay awake while I was taking pictures of her, but as you can see, sleep won.

I met up with Braylon and his family at Lindenwood park in Fargo for his one year pictures. I first met Braylon when he was 6 months, then saw him again for pictures at 9 months. He has grown so much in the last few months! And this time, he definitely gave me a workout. There was lots of running and chasing after him. He's a fast mover!

Maggie and Andy [Fergus Falls Photographer]

Maggie and Andy exchanged vows at Andy's family's cabin on Ottertail Lake, MN. The ceremony was on a deck over looking the lake, and we went across the street where they had a large tent set up for the reception.

Maggie are both blessed with amazing families, and a gorgeous little daughter who I seemed to end up with my camera pointed at most of the time. I could definitely feel all of the love, especially during the speeches. There was not a dry eye in the house, including mine!

I feel so blessed to have been a part of this day with them. Thank you Maggie and Andy for allowing me to enjoy this day with you.

Here are some images from Natalie and Casey's wedding at Carlos Creek Winery near Alexandria, MN.

The weather was beautiful! A big change from all of the rain we've been having.

Natalie and Casey's ceremony was in the center of a tree maze. The guests winded through and once inside, there was a clearing set up with rows of white chairs and a gazebo in the center. They even had a small orchestra playing.

This wedding couldn't have been more amazing, I mean the scenery = gorgeous, but also all the beautiful details, the wonderful friends and family, and the love that is apparent in N+C.

This is a long post!

I am so in love with this photo.... this was right after Rance saw Emily for the first time

The boys needed a few bribes (in the form of M&Ms) to stand for pictures. Let me tell you it worked! I should pack some of those in my camera bag!

The church had just cut down some trees the day before the wedding. Surprisingly there were exactly enough of them for a photo idea that Emily had.

There were branches on the tables when you walked in and guests were asked to write advice for the couple on these cards and hang them. What a great idea! And this card has great advice :)

I visited my niece and nephew last weekend and managed to snap a few pictures while I was there. Patrick even got a camera bug and snapped some himself. I think he secretly likes photography. (Shh....)

Here are the rest of the images from a workshop I attended in Minneapolis with Erin Johnson Photography. Erin jam packed everything she knows into a 12 hour workshop, but the time went by so fast! I met the most amazing girls, and I felt like we got to know each other so well. My favorite part of the workshop was of course, the practice shoot!! Bri and Jason were great models, and had plenty of practice with photographers at their wedding two weeks prior to our workshop!
